Local Veteran Donates Flags

Local Korean War Veteran, Peter Carlo, recently presented three American flags to the principals of the “President” schools in Jamestown: Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School and George Washington Middle School in honor and remembrance of the 9/11 Anniversary. Mr. Carlo has given numerous American flags to local schools over the years, including Persell Middle School and Jamestown High School. The three flags have all flown over the White House in Washington, D.C.

“I believe in America. I love Jamestown and the people in this city. As a veteran, I feel that I should give something back to the city I love and I thought presenting American flags to the three President schools would be an appropriate gesture,” said Mr. Carlo. “I love the kids and wanted to give back to them in some way too.”

Mr. Carlo has been actively involved in the community in numerous ways throughout the years including Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts, playing Santa Claus for 20 years, past Commander for the Disabled Veterans Chapter 47, member of AMVETS and the Jamestown Legion, and the Jamestown Memorial Day Parade, to name just a few of his many volunteer activities.

“We are very appreciative of Mr. Carlo’s generous donation to our schools,” said the three principals. “It is especially appropriate that he gave the flags to the three ‘President’ schools to commemorate the 9/11 anniversary and we will proudly fly them.”
