Jefferson School Raises Over $800 during Pink Week

“I didn’t sleep at all last night I was so worried about this,” said Principal Carm Proctor to Jefferson Middle School to students as she waited to get her hair dyed pink with the help of MaryJo Bundy from Salon One. “But I’m so proud of all the effort you, and the staff, have put into our fundraiser so I’m ready to Go Pink!”

Jefferson students and staff recently held multiple fundraisers during “Pink Week”  in honor of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month including Paint Your Nails Pink, Wear Pink to School and selling Ecklof’s pink stripe cookies and pink lemonade. The school raised raised over $800, with fifth grader Wyatt Taber raising $150 towards the cause. Mrs. Proctor promised to dye her hair pink (with temporary dye) for the day if the school raised over $250. The students also listened to Public Service Announcements about cancer awareness.

“It is important to let our students know that breast cancer, as well as other cancers, affects everyone’s lives,” said Mrs. Proctor. “We need to learn about it, talk about it and help those affected by it.”
