JHS ELA Department Uses Can Drive to Raise Funds for Scholarships

The JHS English Language Arts Department is once again collecting cans to help fund English Language Arts Scholarships. This is the second year for the Can Collection Drive. Last year’s drive raised $400 and, so far this year, students and staff have raised $600.

Due to the downturn in the economy, a few ELA scholarships were lost including a poetry scholarship. JHS ELA Department Chairperson, Barbi Price, decided to raise money to continue to give out these scholarships by collecting cans and bottles and enlisting the help of her students. Within JHS, the ELA Department has collection boxes in the cafeteria, hallways, weight room and gyms. If anyone would like to donate cans or bottles in the community, they can also bring them to the Southside Redemption Center on Foote Avenue and designate the “JHS English Department” as the recipient. Monetary donations are also accepted, please contact Barbi Price at 483-3470.

Help out students, who might not otherwise receive a scholarship, be recognized for their outstanding English academic achievements!
