Jamestown High School is proud to announce its 2013 Valedictorian Zachary Eklum and Salutatorian Annie Dyatel. Congratulations to these talented students who best exemplify the tradition of excellence in Jamestown Public Schools.
Valedictorian Zachary Eklum, son of Todd and Dawn Eklum, will be attending Upstate Medical University (Early Assurance) via SUNY Fredonia in the fall with plans to major in Biology/Pre-Med to attend medical school.
“JHS has prepared me for the academic challenges I will face in undergraduate school and medical school through the rigors of the AP courses that I took,” said Mr. Eklum. “Additionally, JHS has honed my leadership and management skills through my participation in a multitude of extracurricular activities. JHS is special because it offers a vast array of advanced classes – more than any other high school in Southwestern New York.”

His activities include: JHS Class (Co-President), Key Club (President), Environmental Club (Secretary), JHS Varsity Wrestling (4 years) – Captain, JHS Varsity Tennis (4 years) – Captain, First Singles, JHS Varsity Football, National Honor Society and Chemistry Tutor.
Salutatorian Annie Dyatel, daughter of Maya and Vladimir Dyatel, will attend Cornell University with plans to major in Biology and attend medical school.
“I am honored to call myself a Red Raider,” said Ms. Dyatel. “JHS has been a proud home to an award-winning marching band, a world championship winning Winter Guard team and many sectional and state championships in athletics. The AP curriculum welcomes students looking to truly challenge themselves, and prepare them for college level academia. However, it is the unsung heroes – the talented faculty and staff at JHS whose wit and remarkable patience made learning, even the driest material, most enjoyable and memorable. With a student body dedicated to serve and giving back to the community, it is safe to say that JHS is one of the top high schools in Western New York.”

Fletcher Award, Jasmine Cantor Award, New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence, AP Scholar with Honor Award, 2012 AP Rhetoric Award, NYS Executive Chamber Letter of Merit, Honor Roll, nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine, JCC’s Part-time Students Dean List, Jamestown YMCA Jets Most Improved Award (2010 & 2011), Section 6 Swimming Sectional Qualifier (2009-2012), JHS Varsity Swimming Scholar Athlete Award (2009), JHS Varsity Swimming Most Improved Swimmer Award (2009), JHS Varsity Swimming Coaches Award (2010), JHS Varsity Swimming MVP Award (2012) and SUNY Fredonia Scholarship.
Her activities include: Key Club, Raider Readers (Secretary), Astronomy Club (Co-Vice President), Speak Up Club, Yoga Club, Concert Orchestra, Student Government, Jamestown Jets Swim Team, JHS Varsity Girls Swim Team (six years) – Captain (2012), Scuba, Environmental Club, National Honor Society and lifeguard at the Jamestown YMCA.
Jamestown High School’s Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, June 21st at 7 p.m. in the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater. Baccalaureate will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 7 p.m. in the St. Peter and Paul Church. Any questions, please contact Jamestown High School at 483-4216.
