The Jamestown City Council PTSA (CCPTSA) recently held it first meeting at the Renaissance Center with featured keynote speaker, Jamestown Superintendent Tim Mains.
Superintendent Mains discussed his goals and vision for the district, the Common Core Learning Standards, state testing and the importance of parent involvement in education.
“I can’t stress how important parent and community involvement is to a successful school district,” said Superintendent Mains. “I chose Jamestown in part because of its strong community who really believe in its school district. I’m so impressed with the commitment, talent and energy in this community and look forward to working together to build an even stronger district.”
Every Jamestown Public School has an active PTA/PTSA and welcomes new volunteers and support from both parents and the community. Joining a PTA/PTSA means that you are willing to support the mission of the PTA, volunteer with events and support the students and schools. PTA membership is $5 per person and most schools offer a student membership for $4.
“I truly believe that education is a partnership between the parents and the schools,” said Erika Zielinski, PTA Southwestern Region director. “PTA provides the bridge necessary to allow parents to become involved. PTA not only supports the students, but the teachers, the administrators and the community as well. Together, as a team, we can all provide a better future for our children.”
At the first meeting, officers were elected:
President: Stacey Micciche, Southwestern Region PTA Assistant Director
First VP: Carm Proctor, Jefferson Middle School Principal
Second VP: Melissa Himes, Fletcher Elementary PTA President
Third VP: Tammy Nordwall, President Elect Lincoln PTA
Treasurer: Melissa Emerson, Washington Middle School Principal
Corresponding Secretary: Joanne Dean, Treasurer Lincoln PTA
