The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education recently honored former school board member, Christine Schnars, by dedicating the Fletcher Elementary School’s atrium in her name.
“I know of no one who gave more to Jamestown Public Schools than Christine Schnars,” said JPS Board of Education President Joe DiMaio. “You have been dedicated to our school system and its students. By naming the Fletcher Elementary School atrium in your honor, we feel it is a fitting tribute. However, it is only a small token of our appreciation for your over 25 years of service on the Board of Education.”
Mrs. Schnars, her family, Superintendent Tim Mains, JPS Board of Education members and former superintendents Raymond Fashano and Deke Kathman attended the dedication. The plaque, which will hang over the entrance to the main office, reads, “In recognition of her involvement in the Milton J. Fletcher School community as a student, as a parent, and as a grandparent. For her commitment of energy and time to The Milton J. Fletcher School PTA and the New York State PTA and for her ongoing support of public education through her service on the Erie 2 BOCES Board of Education, and the New York State School Boards Association Board of Directors, and for over twenty years of exemplary leadership on the Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education, this atrium is dedicated in the name of Christine Schnars.”
“I am almost speechless. I am not totally comfortable with this honor but I do appreciate it. I enjoyed every minute of my 25 years on the school board. However, this dedication must be shared. I accept this honor on behalf of all of those people; parents, teachers, superintendents and board members, who have worked so hard to make Jamestown a premier school district,” said Mrs. Schnars.
