JHS Announces 2014 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Jamestown High School is proud to announce its 2014 Valedictorian, Jonathan Healy, and Salutatorian, Olivia Valone.

“Jonathan and Olivia best exemplify the traits we try to instill in our student body at Jamestown High School. Not only from an excellence in academics standpoint, but also as well-rounded, community-minded individuals. We are very proud of all that Jonathan and Olivia have accomplished and congratulate them on the well-deserved honor of being named the 2014 Valedictorian and Salutatorian,” said JHS Principal Mike McElrath.

Valedictorian Jonathan Healy is the son of Terry Smith and Michael Healy. He will be attending Case Western Reserve University to major in chemical or materials engineering.

Mr. Healy has received numerous honors and awards including: AP Scholar with Distinction, Xerox Award for Innovation and Information, JCC Part-time Dean’s List, WNY Scholar Athlete, Far West Superintendent’s Scholarship, Michelson-Morley Scholarship, Braw Caddie Clan Scholarship, ECIC Division 1 First Team Soccer, Business First WNY All-Academic Team (Honorable Mention), Jasmine Cantor Award, Jamestown School Forest Award and honored as an Eagle Scout with Silver Palm.

Mr. Healy has been actively involved while at JHS in: Senior Class Government (co-treasurer), Varsity: Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Wrestling teams, Concert Band, Full Orchestra, Astronomy Club, National Honor Society, Boy Scouts and Blackwatch Club Soccer.

“JHS is special in that it has such a vast diversity of students as well as the largest Advanced Placement Program in the area,” said Mr. Healy.

Salutatorian, Olivia Valone, is the daughter of Bridget and Jeff Valone. She will be attending American University and participating in the Youth Exchange Program in Germany next year. She plans to study law.

Ms. Valone has received numerous awards and honors including: AP Scholar with Honor, JCC College Connections Student of the Year, Rhetoric Award, Classical & Multicultural Literature Award, Richard J. Sciascia Science Award, Milton J. Fletcher Debate Award, JCC Part-time Dean’s List, WNY Section VI Scholar Athlete, Alumni Scholarship, New York State Scholarship for Scholastic Excellence and Wegmans Scholarship.

Ms. Valone has been actively involved while at JHS in: Varsity Tennis, Mock Trial, National Honor Society, Key Club, Rotary Youth Exchange Program, JPS Communications Strategic Planning Committee and Concert Band.

“I think JHS is special because it offers the most opportunities in academics and sports in the area,” said Ms. Valone.
