JHS Students Thank Principals During National Principal’s Week
By JHS Junior Cameron Hurst

Students at Jamestown High School are saying thank you this week to their Principal, Dr. Mike McElrath, Assistant Principals, Leslie Melquist and Shawn Fink, and Dean of Students, Hugh McKernan, as part of National Principal’s Week.
In a month wide effort started by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the goal of National Principal’s week is to give students “an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to principals everywhere and to share with the community all the great things that principals do.”
The effort at Jamestown High School is led by the JHS National Honor Society and advisor Donelle Conti. Honor Society members Katie Andalora and Stephanie Benson co-chaired the project.
“We just want to do small things for the principals that can make them smile,” Andalora said. “ They do so much and make a safe learning environment for our students.”
Each day, the students have something planned for the principals at Jamestown High School starting with Monday in which Honor Society students decorated the Main Office and Assistant Principals’ offices. On Tuesday, a banner was hung thanking the Principal’s for all they do and signed by numerous students at JHS. Thursday and Friday have a lot in store as well.
On behalf of the student body of Jamestown High School, we would like to thank our principals for all they do to ensure that our school runs fluently and efficiently. We are lucky to have Dr. McElrath as well as Mr. Fink, Mrs. Melquist and Mr. McKernan leading our school. They are not only exceptional professionals, but wonderful people as well.
“This week shouldn’t be the only time to acknowledge all that they do. Everyday we should thank and appreciate them,” said Andalora.
How true.
