Lincoln Elementary School’s classrooms were filled with the sounds of laughter and the smell of glitter glue and green and red paint during a recent Holiday Craft Night. The Lincoln PTA and staff sponsored the night as way to engage families at the school.
Families could choose from 11 different holiday craft stations including: framed Santa handprint, pom-pom wreaths and candy cane ornaments, homemade wrapping paper, craft stick reindeer, play dough kits, star and snowmen ornaments, snowmen decorations, cinnamon stick and salt dough ornaments and bracelet-making.
“We are trying to come up with more opportunities for families to come to school and spend some fun time together,” said Lincoln Elementary School Principal Katie Russo. “We focus so much on the academic goals but our social-emotional goals are just as important. Events like a craft night give students opportunities to practice skills that are focused on their social development. We wanted to offer an option rather than the traditional Santa Shop where students could make gifts to give to their loved ones rather than purchase from a pre-ordered selection. The feedback from those in attendance was extremely positive and we hope to be able to offer more family events in the future.”
