Jefferson Middle School FACS Club Donates to Lily’s Hope

Jefferson Middle School students in Sara Hochman’s Family & Consumer Science Club recently created and donated fleece-tie pillows and comfort pillows to Lily’s Hope to give away to their patients. The club, which meets once a week after school helps students discover how to create hand-sewing projects, develop cooking skills, and work on community service projects.

“I really enjoyed working on the Lily’s Hope project,” said Jefferson Middle School fifth grader Kayden Bates. “It’s nice to give the patients something soft to help comfort them. I got involved in FACS Club because it just sounded fun. My favorite thing to do is cooking.”

Lily’s Hope, sponsored by the Women of Zonta (The Zonta Club of Jamestown), opened in November 2010. It is a local resource for women living in, or being treated in, Chautauqua County for any medical diagnosis where hair loss is evident. By calling for an appointment, a woman can get a wig, cap, hat, and/or scarf for free.

“The women are so excited to get the donations from the students,” said Margie Fuchs, Zonta’s Co-chair Service Committee for Lily’s Hope. “They are thrilled to know that students took the time to create the items especially for them and really appreciate it so much.”

Lily’s Hope is now providing camisoles for cancer patients via WCA’s Cancer Kits the patients receive.  They are also keeping a stock of wigs in all colors, lengths and styles. If a patient doesn’t like the wigs in stock, they can view other choices from catalogues – all free of charge to the patients from Lily’s Hope.

Lily’s Hope is located at the WCA Cancer Treatment Center at Jones Memorial Hospital in Jamestown. Call 664-8670 for an appointment.  Lily’s Hope is also now on Facebook at:
