JHS Winter Individual Athletes & Teams Receive Academic Awards

Jamestown High School is proud to announce that four Winter varsity sports teams qualified for New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s (NYSPHSAA) Scholar-Athlete Team Award. To qualify, each team’s minimum GPA average needed to be 90% or higher. The JHS Varsity teams that qualified for the award were:  Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Wrestling and Boys Swimming.

“With the addition of these four teams named New York State Scholar-Athlete Teams, this makes 12 of our 16 varsity sports this season,” said JPS Athletic Director, Ben Drake. “This is something that our school and community should celebrate.  We are producing student-athletes in every sense of the word.”

In addition, five JHS seniors were named All-WNY Scholar Athletes:

Boys’ Basketball: Stephen Carlson
Boys’ Basketball: Zack Panebianco
Boys’ Basketball: Matt Nazzaro
Boys’ Basketball: Ben Larson
Boys’ Swimming: Matthew Caldwell

Five JHS athletes were also named to the ECIC All-Academic Team:

Boys’ Basketball: Zack Panebianco and Stephen Carlson
Boys’ Swimming:  Matt Marsh, Matt Caldwell and Matt Roehmholdt

“These young men are what Red Raider Athletics is all about,” said Mr. Drake. “They are high achievers not just in the athletic arena, but also in the classroom. These student-athletes are true role models for youngsters in our community.”

Each scholar-athlete will receive a certificate from NYSPHSAA for his or her accomplishment. Congratulations to all the teams and individual athletes for their academic achievements.
