JHS Graduate, Dylan Lundmark, Awarded Karen Hessney Memorial Scholarship

Jamestown High School 2015 Graduate, Dylan Lundmark, was recently awarded the Karen Hessney Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 at the NYSUT building in Jamestown. The Association of Jamestown Paraprofessionals (AJP) donated $500.00 and Mr. Paul Hessney matched the donation with an additional $500.00.  Dylan is the son of Jon Lundmark and Lisa Bresson and will be attending Jamestown Community College in the fall.

The scholarship honors the memory of Karen Hessney, whose dedication to education and love of life was apparent to all who knew her. Mrs. Hessney was a Labor Relations Specialist with NYSUT and was a representative for the AJP.

“Our entire family is deeply grateful to the executive council of AJP for continuing the scholarship in Karen’s memory,” said Mr. Hessney.  Our congratulations go to our recipient, Dylan Lundmark, and his family.  I would like to thank the executive board of the AJP: Val Haglund, Cheryl Jones, Linda Rublee, Vesna Carlson, and Mary Chesnutt who are doing great work for their unit and who recognize Karen’s unique contributions to the Jamestown schools.  Ladies, it has been wonderful to work with all of you, and your dedication to Karen’s legacy means more than I can express in words.”

This is the second year that the AJP presented the scholarship.

“The AJP is honored to award this particular scholarship to Dylan,” said AJP Co-president, Cheryl Jones.  “After reading several of the applicant essays the scholarship team all agreed that Dylan’s essay was their final choice. The team consisted of Paul Hessney, Vesna Carlson and Linda Rublee. The AJP hopes to continue on with the Karen Hessney Memorial Scholarship for years to come, as Karen touched the lives of everyone that knew her and we would love nothing more than to continue to honor her name.”

In his essay, Dylan wrote about attending JCC to pursue a career in Criminal Justice with his goal to become a Juvenile Probation Officer or Police Officer. Dylan wants to help people that may be struggling, and fight for the underdog by doing everything in his power to educate and uplift those around him, as did Karen Hessney.

“My family and I are truly honored and delighted to receive the 2015 Karen Hessney Memorial Scholarship,” said Dylan. “The scholarship in her memory is a special award and our family couldn’t be happier to receive this. Her dedication to her job was an inspiration to many and this scholarship is a living legacy to her character and vision.”
