Ring First Graders Donate to Operation Christmas Child

Ring Elementary School first graders in Brandi Meacham’s class learned a little bit more about making people feel good by donating to Operation Christmas Child. The students learned about being emotional “bucket fillers,” through doing good deeds, giving compliments, and smiling. Mrs. Meacham took the lesson one step further by collecting items to donate to Operation Christmas Child. Students also wrote letters of encouragement to include in the boxes they will send.

Operation Christmas Child, an initiative though Samaritan’s Purse, collects items to fill shoeboxes that are shipped to children in need around the world. Some items that are needed: small toys, toothpaste and toothbrush, school supplies, coloring books, bars of soap and learning games. Ring School will drop off the donations at the Park United Methodist Church this week to be shipped to a needy child.

“I am always looking for real-life ways to teach character education,” said Mrs. Meacham. “It is important to me that my students not only learn the importance of an education and being good readers, but the joy that comes from being a respectful friend and good person.”
