JHS & Persell Middle School Garden Clubs Exhibit at “GROW Jamestown”

The JHS Garden Club, “Gardeners of Weedin,” and Persell Middle School’s Garden Club recently exhibited at the Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena “GROW Jamestown” Garden Fair.

The Jamestown students created “fairy garden” plants that were sold for donations to help support the club and purchase seeds and soil for this year’s vegetables, which at harvest will be donated to St. Susan’s Center. Co-advisors Cheryl Jones and LeAnn Love, along with a few of the Garden Club members, Allie and Zara Miles, Robyn Miller and Trisha Waite, attended the event.

“We hope anyone who purchased a fairy garden plant will enjoy both the beauty and the fresh herbs included in each planter,” said Mrs. Jones. “We were really thrilled to participate in the ‘GROW Jamestown’ Fair and showcase all the wonderful things the JHS gardeners are doing.”

Along with the JHS gardeners, 15 enthusiastic young gardeners from Persell’s Garden Club, also took part in the GROW Jamestown Garden Fair with their advisors, Annika Putney and Devyn Agett. The students spent time sharing information about “Persell’s Produce Patch,” the school’s new fruit and vegetable garden. They talked about the upcoming build day where parents, staff, and volunteers from Lowe’s will construct the raised beds for the students to plant in. They were also eager to share how they plan to use the garden during the school year, as well as having summer hours for students and neighbors to come work in the garden and take home fresh produce.

“We had such a great time at the Fair and were able to make connections with various community members and groups who can help support our project along the way.  We appreciate all the enthusiastic support our garden is receiving.  The kids can’t wait to get out in the dirt and plant!” said Persell Middle School teacher and Co-advisor, Annika Putney.
