Bush School Kicks Off PARP With Magician, Cris Johnson

Bush Elementary School students received a “magical” introduction to its Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) program with a special visit from magician, Cris Johnson. The magic show, sponsored by former principal Roger Gilbert, emphasized the importance of reading in a fun, interactive way to enhance the PARP theme this year, “Reading is Magical Ride.”

The two-week collaboration between Bush School staff and its PTA asks parents and family members to read with their children for 15 minutes each day outside of school.  To enhance the program, there are fun “days” that remind students to read including:  Bring Your Favorite Book to School Day, Carry a Poem in Your Pocket Day and Dress as Your Favorite Book Character Day, to name just a few.

“We hold our PARP program every year to encourage families to read with their children,” said Bush School Principal Dan Bracey. “We all know the importance of reading to a child’s education and any way that we, as a school, can inspire our students and families to read at home will only benefit them in the classroom.”

Bush School will also giveaway four bikes and helmets that were donated from Kmart and The Post-Journal as part of their PARP celebration.
