JHS Announces 2016 Valedictorian Matthew Elia and Salutatorian Luke Kindberg

Jamestown High School is proud to announce its 2016 Valedictorian, Matthew Elia, and Salutatorian, Luke Kindberg.

“I’m very excited for Matt and Luke. They have worked very hard and balanced extremely busy schedules to get to this point,” said JHS Principal, Mike McElrath. “I look forward to watching them take the next step in their academic careers and I’m certain that we’ll continue to hear great things about them in the future”

Valedictorian Matthew Elia is the son of Lisa and James Elia. He will be attending the United States Naval Academy and plans to major in Nuclear Engineering.

Mr. Elia has received numerous honors and awards including: Jasmine Cantor Award, Oscar Price Award, Prendergast Prize Award for Biology, Theodore Peterson Award for Chemistry, Student of the Month, All-WNY Scholar Athlete and the Skelton Leadership Award for Cross Country.

Mr. Elia has been actively involved while at JHS: Co-vice president Student Council, Student Government, Key Club, Impact Campus Fellowship, National Honor Society, Ice Hockey, JHS Cross Country and JHS Track.

“JHS is special because it is diverse and offers a large selection of classes, clubs and sports. JHS has pushed me to be the best I can be,” said Mr. Elia.

Salutatorian, Luke Kindberg, is the son of Maria and Timothy Kindberg. He will be attending University of Pittsburgh and plans to major in Business/Marketing.

Mr. Kindberg has received numerous awards and honors including: Jasmine Cantor Award, Men’s Credit Association Award, Davis Award, Labor Management Scholarship, Roskamp Scholarship, Class of 1909 Essay Award, 2nd Team ECIC I Basketball, WNY Scholar Athlete and BCANY All-State Academic.

Mr. Kindberg has been actively involved while at JHS: JHS Basketball, National Honor Society and Key Club.

“JHS is special because there are many teachers who work extremely hard and challenge students in the classroom. JHS has helped me develop a work ethic which will hopefully carry me through life,” said Mr. Kindberg. 

Jamestown High School will hold its Commencement Ceremony on Friday, June 24th at 7 p.m. in the Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater. JHS Baccalaureate will be Thursday, June 23rd at 7 p.m. at SS Peter & Paul Church.
