Ring Elementary School Teacher Brandi Meacham Received NYS Excellence in Teaching Award

Ring Elementary School first grade teacher, Brandi Meacham, recently received the NYS Excellence in Teaching Award from Governor Andrew Cuomo. Mrs. Meacham is the only recipient of the award in southwestern New York. She will receive a $5,000 stipend to support her professional development interests and will also be invited to meet with university, workforce and policy leaders across the state to share their expertise and insights.

The award recognizes New York State teachers who help successfully prepare a new generation of learners for the future. The program honors outstanding individuals who exemplify the highest standards of teaching, working to foster creativity, instill a love of learning, and inspire independent thinking and student initiative.

“We are very proud that one of our excellent teachers, Brandi Meacham, received this prestigious award from Governor Cuomo,” said JPS Superintendent Tim O. Mains.  “Brandi exemplifies the hard work and dedication it takes to reach the highest level of her career and we are very lucky to have a teacher with such high-caliber standards teaching Jamestown students.”

Fellow Ring Elementary School teacher, Carrie Davenport, nominated Mrs. Meacham for the award.

“I nominated Brandi because of her hard work and dedication to not only her students, our school, and our community but also to each of her colleagues,” said Ms. Davenport. “She is someone I love collaborating with and who inspires myself and others to push themselves and their students each day!”
Introduced this year, the Empire State Excellence in Teaching Program Award will recognize teachers from 10 different regions of New York, spanning from the North Country to New York City every year.

“Brandi Meacham is a very conscientious teacher,” said Ring Elementary School Principal, Connie Foster. “She holds certifications in Elementary Education as well as Special Education and Literacy.  She is also a building instructional coach, assisting other teachers in the planning and delivery of rigorous lessons, and helps plan and present our teacher trainings. She has a positive attitude and has been a co-planner of several staff and student celebrations. She was a leader in our multi-year quest to fundraise and provide a playground for our youngest students. Mrs. Meacham is passionate about her teaching and the students she teaches and is well deserving of this great honor from the Governor for Empire State Teacher of Excellence Award. We have such dedicated and talented teachers at Ring School and Jamestown Public School, The Jamestown community at large is very lucky to have teachers of Brandi’s caliber working with our children.”
