Love Elementary School is ready to welcome back students and their families for the 2016-17 school year after a year of capital improvement projects.
“We appreciated the hospitality of both Lincoln Elementary School and Washington Middle School. The staff at both schools were such a great help in housing our students last year while Love School was closed for renovations and providing a really positive experience for our students, staff and families,” said Love Elementary School Principal Renee Hartling. “However, we are very excited to get our entire school back together and thrilled with the renovations at our school. It will make Love Elementary School an even better place for students to learn.”
Love Elementary School’s capital project included a complete heating and ventilation upgrade, which included adding air conditioning to the entire building and will increase ventilation by bringing in more fresh air. The school also had an electrical upgrade including new LED lights in the gymnasium and new electrical service into the school. A new roof was put on the building and the outside of the school had masonry renovation and cleaning to bring the brick on this Beck and Tinkham structure back to its original beauty. Waterproofing and drainage was also installed in the foundation outside to help the basement classrooms. New sidewalks on the 8th Street side were installed and the parking lot will be milled and re-topped.
A new, secure vestibule was installed to the entrance of the school to provide greater security for Love Elementary students and staff. A new handicap accessible ramp was built at the main entrance on Spring Street. The main office suite was completely renovated with new offices and a copy/work room for staff. New ceilings were installed in the entire building. New floors and acoustical tiles were installed in the cafeteria. New flooring was installed in most classrooms.
New plumbing in the building, including a complete renovation to all student bathrooms, was completed on the first and second floors. Two, new faculty bathrooms were also created. Upgrades to the gymnasium included a new stage, curtain, and lighting and motorized window shades. A new sound system, projector and screen were also installed in the gymnasium, which serves as Love School’s auditorium.
