Ring 1st Graders Practice Kindness During the Holiday Season

Ring Elementary School first graders in Brandi Meacham’s class learned a little bit more about kindness by participating in a special holiday project benefiting Operation Christmas Child.

Mrs. Meacham challenged her students to fill Operation Christmas Child boxes to be sent around the world to children. If one boy and one girl in her class each filled an Operation Christmas Child box, then Mrs. Meacham would also fill a box for a local child in Jamestown. Students and their families signed up for items at parent/teacher conferences and the items were collected in November. Students filled five Operation Christmas boxes and sent in two large sets of Legos that were also donated to Toys for Tots.

“They far exceeded the challenge so I bought a large bin and filled it with items for a local child,” said Mrs. Meacham “We learned about helping and giving throughout the world and in our own community. We will continue these lessons by reading about Random Acts of Kindness. In January, we will learn about the ‘12 Days of Kindness’ and different ways we can spread love around the world starting right here in Jamestown.”

Students will continue this kindness connection through to February’s “PS I Love You” and “Red Nose Day.”
