JPS Announces 21st Century Grants Director Amanda Gesing

The Jamestown Board of Education recently appointed Amanda Gesing to the position of 21st Century Grants Director. Mrs. Gesing will be taking over the position from Julie Poppleton who retired at the end of June.

As 21st Century Grants Director, Mrs. Gesing will seek, recommend and procure funding for extended learning opportunities that contribute to student success throughout the district; developing and maintaining effective relationships among various community-based organizations and harnessing the collective energies in the best interest of the district.

“We are very pleased to have someone with Mrs. Gesing’s extensive experience and knowledge of both procuring grants and collaborating with the community to enhance our students’ and families’ experiences with Jamestown Schools,” said Superintendent Sylvia Root.  “Mrs. Gesing has worked with Jamestown Schools for years and has developed many positive connections that will help in her transition. We are delighted to welcome her to the Jamestown School family.”

Most recently, Mrs. Gesing was the Director of Alumni Relations at Jamestown Community College. Previously, Mrs. Gesing worked for Chautauqua Striders as the Director of Mentoring and Advocacy and as a mentoring coordinator. As part of her work experience, Mrs. Gesing successfully wrote grants to local and national foundations, collaborated with county agencies, businesses and area service organizations on grant applications and joint projects, and communicated with businesses, foundations and funders to secure financial stability for programming.

“The 21st Century Programs have, and will continue, to play a unique and vital role in the promotion of positive youth development at Jamestown Public Schools,” said Mrs. Gesing. “I am honored to have the opportunity to continue the strong efforts in engaging the community, families, District leadership and critical community partners to enhance family engagement and student experiences.”

Mrs. Gesing obtained her Bachelor’s degree in social work from Northern Kentucky University. She is actively involved in the community as a board member of the Jamestown Community Learning Council, a member of the Chautauqua Leadership Network and Zonta Club, a volunteer school-based mentor and youth soccer coach and coordinator.
