JHS Senior Carmen Rodriguez Collects Donations for Puerto Rico

JHS senior, Carmen Rodriguez, recently collected non-perishable items to help the victims of the hurricane in Puerto Rico.

“I decided to do the donation drive because I am from Puerto Rico and still have a lot of family there. It is my place and my people and when I heard about everything that is happening I knew that I had to get involved and help out,” said Carmen.

Carmen’s teacher, Raquel Ruch, and JHS Principal, Mike McElrath, connected Carmen to Nueva Vida Church who is taking the collections from throughout the community and sending them to Puerto Rico. Carmen created posters to hang in JHS to advertise the drive and broadcasted messages about the drive on the JHS Morning Announcements.

“I am very proud of Carmen,” said Mrs. Ruch. “She took initiative and did all of this on her own. It is nice to see a young lady want to help others in need.”
