JHS Announces 2018 Students of the Year – Abigail Roof, Ayah Qadri, Sofia Isabella & Alicia Rensel

Congratulations to the JHS 2018 Students of the Year. These talented students are fantastic representatives of our high school!

Abigail Roof, daughter of Lyle and Wendy Roof, is a freshman at Jamestown High School. She sings in the Mixed Chorus, plays mallet percussion in the Symphonic and Marching Bands and plays the violin in the Chamber Orchestra. She is also a member of Needlework Club, the Quiz Bowl team, Raider Readers, and Broadcast Communications Club. She is a student leader in Impact Campus Fellowship and was a cast member of the musical. Abigail is very active at her church, Hillcrest Baptist, with music and youth ministry. She is leaning toward entering a field of science after graduation.




Ayah Qadri, a sophomore at Jamestown High School, is the daughter of Sami and Diala Qadri. Ayah has spent her year in many different clubs including helping out in Yearbook Club and Student Council, volunteering in Key Club, doing the Morning Announcements and is the secretary of Astronomy and Chess Club. During the fall, Ayah has participated in both JHS girls soccer and tennis. In the winter, she has participated in snowboarding, skiing, and indoor soccer for the YMCA. In the spring, she plays travel soccer. Since her favorite class is Chemistry, she hopes in the future to increase her knowledge in pharmaceutical and chemistry studies at the University at Buffalo.




Sofia Isabella is a junior at Jamestown High School, and is the daughter of Luigi and Teresina Isabella. Sofia is involved in the A Cappella Choir and Madrigals. She also takes private voice lessons from Marjorie Switala and piano from Cathy Gagliano. In her free time, she in involved in the school musicals and works at Media One Group. After graduation, she plans to attend college and be a news broadcaster.





Alicia Rensel is a senior at Jamestown High School, and is the daughter of Jack and Gail Rensel. Alicia is a member of Student Organization and National Honor Society in which she is a Co-Vice President for both. She is also a member of Key Club and volunteers as a Eucharistic Minister at St. James Parish. Alicia was recognized as the JCC Senior College Connections Student of the Year and has achieved the status of an AP Scholar with Distinction. In the fall, she plans to attend Penn State Behrend to major in Nursing, BSN and will be participating in their Schreyers Honors College.
