Roode Honored by Football Team
Walt Roode, a long-time fixture on the Jamestown High School’s sidelines was honored at the home opener Red Raider Football game. Mr. Roode, who was volunteered his time since 1966, has taken hundreds of photographs of Red Raider sports including football, baseball and basketball.
“Walt Roode has been a fixture on the Red Raider sidelines for decades and he has certainly forged some special relationships along the way,” said Ben Drake, Athletics Director. “Guys like that don’t come around very often and the entire athletic department will miss him immensely.”
Mr. Roode was asked to take a football team photo back in 1966 and has continued photographing, all on his own time, since then.
“My favorite part is the kids. I love them,” said Mr Roode. “I used to coach Little League and Babe Ruth baseball and I loved seeing the kids grow from young players to high school players. I’ve met a lot of great people and right now the grandson of one of my former players is on the JV football team. It’s been great to photograph so many great kids throughout the years.”
