About JPS

We are very proud of the flourishing educational system we have built and hope that your tour through our Jamestown Public Schools website begins to reveal the sources of our pride.

The Jamestown Public Schools have produced a number of exceptionally talented students who have consistently found success in the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities. Our music program is unparalleled in its accomplishments, both with respect to individual artists and to groups, in particular, our state champion marching band. Our athletic teams continue to produce individual champions, as well as league, sectional, regional and even state championship teams. Both our football and basketball teams have been to the state championships. And a number of JPS students have distinguished themselves as All-American athletes. We take great pride in the nurturing of well-rounded and successful young people.

Our formal educational system begins for four-year-olds with our Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. A variety of Pre-K program options are available at several different sites across the city. Our regular elementary program is offered at our five neighborhood elementary schools. They each feature a full-day Kindergarten program and provide comprehensive child-centered programming through fourth grade. Beyond the regular academic program, our elementary schools also provide comprehensive instruction in music, art, physical education and library services. Commensurate with our middle and high schools, state-of-the-art instructional technologies are well integrated into the daily teaching and learning activities of our elementary students. All of our elementary schools offer after school programming and childcare services. Add a complete remedial service, inclusive special education programs, elementary guidance counselors, an advanced learning program, and many other services and you will begin to sense our district’s dedication to early childhood education.

Our three middle schools are another source of pride in Jamestown. Beginning in fifth grade and continuing through eighth grade, our program features instructional teams of teachers that serve small groups of students. The academic program is enhanced by regular instruction in technology, the arts, health, physical education, computer sciences, and other areas, all in excess of New York State requirements. Our library media centers are truly hubs for learning in our middle schools and routinely feature our technological connections to the world. Our district’s technological enhancements are, in fact, the envy of many schools throughout Western New York. Team & individual sports, extracurricular activities, choral & instrumental music opportunities, and after school activities are vibrant additions to the daily middle school program. Our gifted and talented program, which begins in fourth grade, continues through fifth and sixth grades. Opportunities for formal acceleration in mathematics and science instruction are available in seventh and eighth grades.

Our comprehensive high school receives all Jamestown students in grades nine through twelve. Truly extraordinary opportunities abound at Jamestown High School, a place where students have a broad selection of courses and programs. Many Advanced Placement courses are available which carry with them the opportunity for college level credit. Multiple course selections in English, history, mathematics, science, and art are all challenging and rewarding for the motivated student. Jamestown Community College and other area institutions endorse other JHS classes; in fact, many JHS grads leave with multiple college courses on their transcript. Our district has also added the fully functioning Raymond J. Fashano Tech Academy, which features practical applications for manufacturing technology, travel & tourism, small engine mechanics, and other career oriented courses. Truly exemplary programming in athletics and the arts, extracurricular activities, community service, and other opportunities make Jamestown High School the jewel of Chautauqua County schools.

Recent expansions and additions at Jefferson Middle School have transformed the campus into a center for district and community activity. Located on Martin Road, the Jefferson campus has expanded to include Strider Field (lighted all-weather track and artificial turf football field), lighted soccer fields, baseball fields, softball fields, and an arboretum/walking path. The most recent addition of a mammoth, three-gymnasium field house has significantly increased the number of community visitors to the Jefferson campus.
