JHS Students of the Month – October 2013

Senior: Jake Sisson

Jake Sisson, a senior at Jamestown High School, is the son of George and Kim Sisson. Jake plays quarterback and is a captain on the Varsity Football team. He is also a member of the Varsity Boy’s Basketball and Baseball teams as well. Outside of sports, Jake is in the JHS Astronomy Club and attends church regularly at Zion Covenant. After graduation, he plans on attending college, playing football, and studying engineering in college.

 

 

Junior: Stephen Carlson

Stephen Carlson, a junior at JHS, is the son of Susan DePetro Carlson of Jamestown and John Carlson of Pittsburgh. As Co-President of his class for three years, he has been involved with both Class Council and Student Organization.  Stephen has been a Varsity Player for JHS Football and Basketball since tenth grade. Playing the alto sax in JHS Concert Band since ninth grade, he currently takes lessons with Ray Pappalardo and formerly Andy Coccagnia. Stephen is involved in community activities through JHS Key Club, W.C.A. Hospital and altar serving at Holy Apostles Church. He plans to attend a 4-year college in the future.

 

Sophomore: Sydney Deppas

Sydney Deppas, a sophomore at Jamestown High School, is the daughter of Lou and Melissa Deppas. Sydney is the Co-Secretary of the sophomore class and is a member of Key Club, Raider Readers, and JHS Needlework Club. She also plays trumpet in the Concert Band, is a member of the JHS Red Raider Marching Band, JHS A’Cappella Choir, Madrigal Singers, and Concert Orchestra. She has participated in the JHS musical as well. She received the Charles Jacobson Scholarship Award for Music, and has been selected for the All-County Music Festival for trumpet for the past three years. In her spare time, Sydney volunteers at her church and other community events. After graduation she plans to attend a four-year college, and has not yet decided on a major.

 

Freshman: Jacob Zwieg

Jacob K. Zwieg, a freshman at Jamestown High School, is the son of Ivan Zwieg and Sheila Spunaugle. Jacob is on the Jamestown High School Hockey Team, Jamestown High School Football Team, and the Jamestown High School Wrestling Team. Jacob has volunteered and played in the Gus Macker and the Jamestown Street Jam Basketball tournaments. Jacob also has helped as an instructor for many hockey coaching clinics. He has volunteered for the Salvation Army Bell Ring at Christmas as well. Jacob has played for the Jamestown Lakers (hockey), Westside Panthers (football), and Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth (baseball) teams for over 10 years and received the Lyle Parkhurst, Jr. Umpire Award 2012. Jacob has recently enrolled in becoming an ice hockey official. Jacob also attends Hill Crest Baptist Church, Mission Meadow’s Camp and Camp Lye Lo Lye. After graduation Jacob would like to further his hockey career and play in the NHL.
