JHS Teacher Donates to English Scholarship

Retired JHS Teacher Donates to English Department Scholarship Fund

Jamestown High School retired teacher Carl Calimeri recently made a very generous donation to to the English Department to help their Scholarship Fund. Last year, due to the downturn in the economy, several JHS scholarship funds were unable to generate enough money to award some longstanding English awards.

In an effort to raise revenue, the JHS English Department decided to sponsor a can drive. The Department is collecting returnable bottles and cans and have placed “Scholarship Fund” boxes throughout the high school – in corridors, classrooms, the cafeteria, and the gyms. Student volunteers from Key Club sort the bottles and cans according to recyclables and teacher Becky Newman takes the bottles and cans to the Southside Redemption Center, where they have a JHS English Department account dedicated to scholarship funding.

“I decided to donate to the scholarship as a memorial for a loved one,” said Mr. Calimeri. “I appreciate all the hard work that the department does to keep giving scholarships to their students and wanted to contribute.”

The JHS English Department will continue to collect bottles and cans in an effort to continue to fill their scholarship coffers. The public can take their cans and bottles directly to the Southside Redemption Center and JHS English Department account.
