JPS Website Wins Merit Award

JPS Website Recognized with Award of Merit

Jamestown Public Schools was recently recognized with an “Award of Merit” for its website by NYSPRA (New York School Public Relations Association) as part of its Annual Communications Awards. NYSPRA will present the district with its award during the NYSSBA (New York State School Boards Association) Convention in Rochester, NY.

Each year, NYSPRA sponsors annual communications awards to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievement in educational communications. The awards contest continues to be one of the largest in the nation and provides both members and non-members with a time to shine and an opportunity to showcase exemplary communication practices.

“I am extremely proud of the accomplishment that this award represents. We knew that a significant portion of our community had moved to the Internet as their primary source of information,” said JPS Superintendent Daniel Kathman. “We also knew that our prior website presence was not adequately serving our intended audience. Our communications coordinator Cathy Panebianco worked with Werkbot to develop our new district website that launched at the beginning of last school year. It is dynamic, informative, easily navigable, and attractive to the eye. I am heartened by the fact that NYSPRA has made some of these same conclusions. Even more encouraging is our user data, which suggests that more and more of our community is finding, and using, our website – the original goal of our redesign effort.”

Jamestown Schools’ website provides current information for parents, students and community members including: district calendar, school menus, job opportunities, athletic schedules, Parent Portal to access student information, school pages, academic and school registration information, codes of conduct and student handbooks, information about JPS for realtors and people moving to the Jamestown area, individual school pages and school board information. The home page highlights up-to-date information with announcements, a “Spotlight” section showcasing activities happening across the district and “Traditions of Excellence,” which celebrates student and staff accomplishments.

The website also offers a link to the Jamestown Public Schools’ Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/JamestownPublicSchools) where parents, students and community members can find daily information about the district.
