TEAM Program to Hold Open House 12/3

The TEAM (Teenage Education And Motherhood) Program will hold an Open House on Tuesday, December 3rd from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Chadakoin Center at 120 W. Third Street in Jamestown. The TEAM Program entrance is located at the back of the Chadakoin Center.

The informal Open House will include student-guided tours, an informational slideshow, opportunities to ask questions about the program, and light refreshments. The public is welcome to stop by the Open House to learn more about the program.

The TEAM Program, a collaboration between the Jamestown Public Schools and Jamestown YWCA, provides education, supportive services, and childcare for pregnant teens, teen mothers, and their children. TEAM makes it possible for young women to complete their high school education while also concentrating on prenatal care and parenting education. TEAM is for young women, ages 12-21 years old, who are at least four months pregnant or have a child under 3 years old with the goal of completing a high school education, while receiving help with motherhood challenges.

“TEAM is an unique and important program in our area,” said Michelle Cobbe, TEAM Director. “Only 40 percent of teen mothers graduate high school nationwide. TEAM’s goal is to have every student graduate and be able to go onto college or the workforce. Over the last nine years, we have reached our goal with an average of 92% of our participants graduating high school. Some years we have had 100% graduation. The TEAM program gives students’ opportunities by helping them in all aspects of their lives including education, case management, childcare, parenting classes and support.”

The TEAM Program would like to thank their funding sources: United Way of Southern Chautauqua County, Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation, The Lenna Foundation, Hultquist Foundation, Gould Foundation, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Department of Social Services and Jamestown Public Schools.
