Local Korean War Veteran, Peter Carlo, recently presented three American flags to the principals of Jamestown High School, Persell Middle School and Fletcher Elementary School along with Mayor Sam Teresi. Mr. Carlo has given numerous American flags to local schools over the years, including Jefferson Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Washington Middle School. The three flags have all flown over the White House in Washington, D.C.
“I believe in America. I love Jamestown and the people in this city. As a veteran, I feel that I should give something back to the city I love and I thought presenting American flags local schools was an appropriate gesture,” said Mr. Carlo. “I love the kids and wanted to give back to them in some way too.”
Mr. Carlo has been actively involved in the community in numerous ways throughout the years including Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts, playing Santa Claus for 20 years, past Commander for the Disabled Veterans Chapter 47, member of AMVETS and the Jamestown Legion, and the Jamestown Memorial Day Parade, to name just a few of his many volunteer activities.
“We are very appreciative of Mr. Carlo’s generous donation,” said the three principals. “We will proudly fly them at our schools.”
