Jamestown Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Walter Samick as the new principal at Fletcher Elementary School.
“We are pleased to appoint Mr. Samick as the Fletcher School principal. He possesses strong leadership skills and knowledge of curriculum and instruction that will benefit the entire Fletcher School Community,” said Tina Sandstrom, Director of Elementary Education.
Since 2008, Mr. Samick has been the Coordinator of Mathematics Pre-K to 12 and the Coordinator of the Advanced Learning Program for the Jamestown Public Schools. As the Math Coordinator, Mr. Samick’s responsibilities included: developing and mapping data driven district math curriculum, facilitating and developing district math benchmark assessments, establishing, leading, implementing and maintaining the new Kindergarten through 8th grades math program, formal/formative evaluator of teachers and developed, facilitated and implemented department staff development. Mr. Samick’s duties as coordinator of ALP included leading the after school Advanced Learning Program serving 100+ students.
From 2007 to 2008, Mr. Samick was the assistant principal at Jefferson Middle School where he was Dean of Students among many other responsibilities, which included servicing students with special needs and coordinating state assessments. From 1997 to 2007, he was a mathematics teacher at Jamestown High School and class advisor for the 2002 and 2007 graduates.
Mr. Samick received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from SUNY Fredonia. He also completed the Principal Certification Program from Gannon University. He has his NYS Permanent Certification in Mathematics and SAS.
Mr. Samick and his wife Wendy have lived in the Jamestown area since 1986, and raised three children through the Jamestown Public Schools.
“As the Math Coordinator I have found Fletcher Elementary School to be a wonderful place filled with eager learners, dedicated educators and a tremendous support staff.
